Social and Community Access Support

The difference

The key distinction between Community Access Support and Social Support (or Companionship) lies in the focus and intensity of the services provided. While both services aim to reduce social isolation and foster social engagement, Social Support primarily involves one-on-one companionship and assistance with daily living activities for those who may have limited social connections or are homebound.

Community Access Support is more centered around group activities and community-based engagement. It encourages individuals to venture out into the community, interact with peers, and participate in a broader range of events and experiences. The emphasis is on empowering individuals to be active participants in their communities and engage in activities beyond their immediate home environment. Community Access Support also tends to be more structured and organized, with scheduled outings and planned events, whereas Social Support may involve more informal and spontaneous interactions between the participant and the support worker or companion.
